Amee Gardner

September 26, 1922 — January 17, 2017

Amee McLeary Gardner died peacefully on January 17, 2017. She was born in Chicago, Illinois on September 26, 1922 to Thomas Jefferson McLeary and Ruby Alexander McLeary. She was the widow of John Gardner. She attended Englewood High School. Amee was the youngest of eight children and was nicknamed "Baby". The name stuck. She was referred to as Aunt Baby by her nieces and nephews and also, just Baby by her many friends and family in Chicago. It was in her beloved Chicago that she spent most of her life. When her 3yr old great-great nephew was introduced to her as Aunt Baby, he looked at the octogenarian in surprise. It was an odd name for a 3yr old to understand, but it made perfect sense to the rest of the family. Her name was special and she was special to us.

Aunt Baby was the "fun Aunt". She was always willing to play cards, cook your favorite dishes and just listen to her nieces and nephews. She was not only fun but faithful and loyal to her family. Making extended visits to those who needed her and being the caregiver for her mother, mother-in-law and sister. Amee spent her life providing hospitality, joy and love to her extended family, friends and neighbors. Her generous spirit grew out of her love for God and family.

Her family extends a whole-hearted thank you to the caring and professional staff at Samaritan Bethany.
She leaves behind her niece, Jackie (Virge) Trotter and nephews, Ernest McLeary, James (Blue) McLeary, Larry (Allison) McLeary and Thomas (Bunnie) McLeary. She also leaves behind many great-nephews, great nieces, great-great nieces and great-great nephews and her "friend".

She was a believer who had accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior.

A private, family service will be held. Online condolences may be shared at mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com
