Arlie Adolph Anderson, 87, of Red Wing, died Sunday, January 18, 2015, at the Red Wing Health Center. He was born November 4, 1927, in Vasa, Minnesota to Hjalmer and Edla (Sward) Anderson and graduated from Red Wing Central High School in 1946. He served in the US Army from 1946-1947. He continued his education in Chicago at the Marine Engineering School. On October 30, 1954, he was united in marriage to Lorraine "Lorry" Zemke. He worked for 45 years with Cargill in the Marine Industry, retiring in 1991 as Chief Engineer. For a number of years after retirement he continued to do consulting work for them. He was a member of First Lutheran Church, the Leo C. Peterson American Legion #54, Red Wing Elks Lodge BPOE#845, the Masonic Lodge of Red Wing and Red Wing Golf Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and bird watching.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lorry; two sons, Kip (Candace) Anderson of Littleton, Colo. and Kirby (Jan) Anderson of Red Wing; three grandchildren, Alexandra "Ali", Laura and Carson Anderson; one sister, Linnea Hinrichs of Red Wing; one brother, John "Lindy" (Marilyn) Anderson of Red Wing and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Donald and Marlowe and one sister, Lorraine Flynn.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday, January 23, 2015 at First Lutheran Church with Reverend Bill Odermann officiating. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, January 22 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and at the church for one hour prior to the service. Memorials preferred to the Red Wing Noontime Kiwanis Flower Basket Fund, First Lutheran Church or donor's choice.
