Arvin Wilhelm Hadler, age 88, of Goodhue, died of a broken heart, Tuesday, October 03, 2017, at St. Crispin Living Community - Seminary Home in Red Wing with his family by his side. He was born February 21, 1929, to WJ and Hattie (Kempf) Hadler in Belle Creek Township. Arvin graduated from Goodhue High School in 1947. He served during the Korean War. When he returned home he began working the family dairy farm. A life changing event then happened to Arvin, while cleaning out the corn picker, his left hand became caught, causing the loss of all four fingers. During the hospital stay which followed, he met a beautiful blonde nurse named Marjorie Kahle and, as he put it, "He took a turn for the nurse." They were married on October 18, 1957 and they made the farm their home for 40 years. He served many years on the Belle Creek Town Board. When he retired, they had a house built in Goodhue and he worked at the Goodhue Station for 8 ½ years. Arvin enjoyed playing cards, going for drives in the countryside and going fishing with each of his daughters.
He is survived by four daughters, Becky (Robert Phernetton) Hadler-Phernetton of Old Frontenac, Bonnie (David) Sward of Red Wing, Julie (Tim) Thermos of Goodhue, Shari Emich of Madison Lake; grandchildren, Laura, Elia (Kyle Poncelet), and Lija Phernetton, Regina Sward, Jamie, Kailee, and Maia Thermos, and Elsie Emich; great grandchild, Savea Phernetton; sister, Verna Betcher; sister-in-law Lyla Hadler; brother-in-law, Art Myers.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie, who passed away on September 25, 2017; parents, granddaughter, Maria Phernetton; brother, Willis Hadler; brother-in-law, Arnold Betcher; and sister-in-law, Peggy Kahle-Myers.
