Barbara (Sprenger) Karwand, 81, most recently of Forest Lake, Minn. passed away peacefully on February 26, 2018. She was born in Lake City, Minn. on March 24, 1936 to Esther and Joyce Sprenger of Zumbro Falls.
Barb graduated from Abbott School of Nursing in Minneapolis in 1958 and worked at a nurse for many years in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. She married Elwood Karwand in Zumbro Falls in 1957 and celebrated 50 years of marriage before Elwood's death in 2008.
Barb was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church in Red Wing and had an eclectic array of interests. She had music in her soul, spending her life singing in church choir as well as with school and community choral groups. Rarely was she not humming or whistling. She loved sewing, baking and reading; spending countless hours sharing these talents with others. She was always one to step in and help others, whatever the circumstance.
Barb was a soft-spoken, sweet lady who will be dearly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her son, Eldon (Lynne) Karwand of Center City, Minn.; daughters, Kim (Brian) Burke-Phillipp of Brooklyn Center, Minn and Colleen (Robert) Elliott of Sturgeon Bay, Wisc.; as well as 11 grandchildren and 3 great-grandsons. Shew as preceded in death by her parent, husband Elwood, sister Judy and daughter Kaye.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m., Saturday, April 21, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church in Red Wing, Minn. with Rev. Clay Oglesbee officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service a church. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com
