Bettie Capps

March 4, 1925 — June 25, 2015

ROCHESTER - Bettie Fern Capps died peacefully at Samaritan Bethany Home in Rochester on Thursday morning, June 25, 2015 at the age of 90.
Bettie was born at home on March 4, 1925 in Rochester and was raised by her paternal grandparents, William and Alvina Welti as well as her aunt "Peach" Clara Welti, and foster parents Scott and Lucille Jenkins.
Bettie met the love of her life, Curtis Wesley, in ninth grade algebra class at Rochester High School. They were married upon Curtis' separation from the U.S. Army Air Corps on March 30, 1946 in Rochester. After completing her favorite job, the important work of being a homemaker, Bettie re-entered the workforce, working in Pulmonary Function at the Mayo Clinic for 18 years. Upon retirement, Bettie and Curtis spent several winters with friends in Mesa, AZ. She also volunteered at the Mayo Clinic, was very active as a long-time member of Salem Road Covenant Church, and had most recently been attending Rochester Assembly of God Church. She met regularly with her friends from High School, who referred to themselves as "The Loonies."
Bettie was a gentle and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Curtis and Bettie were frequently referred to as "prayer warriors" who never ceased in calling out to God on behalf of their friends, family and anyone in need.
Bettie is survived by her children Bobbie Miller, David (Lynda) Capps and Mary Ann Capps, all of Rochester, MN; grandchildren Christa Miller, and Jeremy (Tonya) Miller, both of Rochester; Joshua Capps of Grand Marais, MN, and Cheyenne (William) Winegar of Jacksonville, FL; and half-brother Bob (Vicky) Eastlee of St Paul, MN. Bettie is preceded in death by her devoted and loving husband Curtis Wesley Capps, and two half-sisters, Madrean Eastlee and Rita Averill.
