Carroll Ann Brooks

May 26, 1938 — February 6, 2016

Carroll Ann Brooks, 77, of Red Wing, passed away Saturday, February 6, 2016 at her home, surrounded by her family. She was born May 26, 1938 in Red Wing to Walter and Elizabeth (Kleist) Lunke. Grew up and attended school in Red Wing, graduating from Red Wing Central High School. After graduation she went on to work at a nurse's aide in the OB unit at St. John's Hospital. She then worked as a cook for the Red Wing School District at Twin Bluff Middle School until she retired. In 1956 she met Donald Brooks at a dance and the couple were married that same year at the Church of St. Joseph. Don was a devoted husband and caretaker to Carroll and the love of her life. They made their home in Red Wing where they raised two daughters. Carroll was a lifelong member of the Church of St. Joseph and was also a member of the Izaak Walton Conservation Club. Carroll was very proud of the home she lived in for 75 years. She loved the flower and vegetable garden Don kept for her and the beautiful birds they would attract. She and her family enjoyed vacationing together in northern Minnesota. Most of all, Carroll was a generous caretaker who loved her family and enjoyed the special relationship she shared with her only granddaughter, Katelyn. Someone only needed to talk to her to realized how kind and caring she was. She enjoyed contributing to many charities, especially Boys Town.
She will be missed by her husband, Donald of Red Wing; two daughters, Mary Jo La Chance of Red Wing, Lisa (Brad) Johnson of Red Wing; granddaughter, Katelyn Brooks Johnson; sister, Katherine (John) Geskerman; one niece, Kimberly (Craig) Phillips and their son Jonathan; two nephews, Galen (Jeanie) Bauer and their children Brandon and Taylor and Jason Bauer and his daughter Kara (Ben) Rose; sisters-in-law, Linda Roberts and Jeanie (Marty) Hirdler; brothers-in-law, Joe Arndt and Robert Arndt, extended family and special friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; son in law, Robert La Chance; sisters-in-law, Joan Kirchner and Sharon Meinke; brothers in law, James Brooks and William Roberts; father-in-law, Frank Brooks; step-father-in-law, Walter Arndt and mother-in-law Maude Arndt.
