Dennis Charles Tarpenning

February 8, 1949 — March 3, 2018

Dennis Tarpenning, age 69, of Rochester, died Saturday, March 3, 2018 at his
home surrounded by his family. Dennis Charles Tarpenning was born Feb. 8, 1949
in Windom, MN to Charles and Delores (Hamm) Tarpenning. He moved to
Rochester in 1958 and graduated from Mayo High School in 1967. Dennis enlisted
in the US Navy in April of 1968 and served until March of 1972. He returned to
Rochester and started an Apprenticeship in Plumbing and Heating, working with
several Rochester area firms. On March 30, 1974 he married Barbara Jessen at St.
John's Catholic Church in Rochester. Following his apprenticeship, Dennis worked
as a steamfitter journeyman for several different Rochester Plumbing and Heating
companies. Dennis started his career with HiMEC, Inc. as a Steamfitter, then as a
Foreman, working on many prominent downtown Rochester buildings, before
moving through the ranks to become President and
co-owner. He retired in 2007. Dennis was a past President of Local #6 Plumbers
and Pipefitters Union, the PHCC, and the MMCA. Dennis was an avid hunter, trap
shooter, fisherman and all around nature lover. He was a member of the
Southeastern Minnesota Sportsmen's Club, the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation,
and Safari Club International.
Survivors include his wife Barbara; his daughter Angela (Matthew Ritcey) Peterson
of St. Charles, MN; his son Joe (Andrea) Tarpenning of Rochester; his father
Charles Tarpenning of Rochester; grandson Isaac Peterson of St. Charles;
grandsons Justin and Jake Tarpenning, both of Rochester; his hunting buddy and
brother-in-law Brian Fjerstad; and special family friend John Wilcox. His mother
Delores, and brothers Thomas and Dale Tarpenning preceded him in death.
The memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Mahn Family Funeral Home -
Rochester Chapel with Chaplain Nancy Toensing of Seasons Hospice officiating.
Friends may call one hour before the service, and a reception will be held
following the service. Military Honors will be provided by the Wm. T. McCoy Post
# 92 of the American Legion. Memorials are suggested to Seasons Hospice, the
Gary Sinise Foundation, or a Wounded Veterans or First Responders charity of the
donor's choice.
