Dolores Mae Steege

Dolores M. Steege, age 89 of Zumbrota, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, October 7, 2017. The memorial service will be on Friday, October 13, 2017 at 11:00 am at United Redeemer Lutheran Church in Zumbrota with Reverend Dr. Margaret Pleis-Sippola officiating. The visitation will be on Thursday, October 12, 2017 from 5:00 - 7:00 pm at Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and for one hour prior to the service on Friday. Burial will be in the Zumbrota Cemetery.
Dolores Mae Solberg was born on May 3, 1928 to Peter and Minnie (Satren) Solberg on the family farm in Wanamingo. She attended Barr Clay country school and graduated from Wanamingo High School in 1946. After high school Dolores worked as a bookkeeper at A. E. Collinge & Son in Zumbrota. On July 23, 1950 Dolores married Lloyd Steege at Wanamingo Trinity Lutheran Church. Together they made their home in Zumbrota where they raised their three children. Over the years Dolores had several jobs including cooking at the nursing home and running a busy daycare out of their home. Dolores enjoyed watching Lloyd play in local bands, Zumbrota Community Band and Chatfield Brass Band and spending time with their family at the cabin. They were members of United Redeemer Lutheran Church. When Lloyd passed in 2003 she continued to take care of their cozy home.
Dolores enjoyed cooking, decorating their home for the holidays, watching and supporting MN sports teams and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Dolores is survived by her three children, Donald Steege of Spring Valley, Bruce (Cheryl) Steege of Zumbrota and Mary (Greg) Brandt of Byron, six grandchildren, Kari, Lindsey, Amber, Jenna, Courtney and Peter; thirteen great-grandchildren; brothers, Don (Gertrude) and Merrill (Becky) Solberg; sister, Pat Opfer; brother-in-law, Duane Scharpen; sister-in-law, Gail Solberg and many nieces and nephews.
Dolores was preceded in death by her loving husband, Lloyd; brother, Gary Solberg; sister, Mary Ann Scharpen; and brother-in-law, Dave Opfer.
