Edna Cecilia Mahoney, 101, of Red Wing, died Saturday, October 25, 2014 at the Seminary Home. She was born on June 15, 1913, in Stewartville, to Joseph and Mary (Monstte) Mayou and was the eighth out of nine children. Edna graduated from Stewartville High School in June of 1931 and went on to complete normal teacher's training in Chatfield and taught at rural schools. In 1933, she married George Lynch, who died unexpectedly in 1943. Edna married Felix Mahoney in September of 1946. Together they raised four children and operated a dairy farm in Featherstone Township. Felix died in 2002. She lived on the farm until 2003 when she moved to the Villa at Hi-Park in Red Wing. Edna had been active in 4H, the Red Cross, church groups, and the VFW and American Legion Auxiliaries. She enjoyed embroidery, quilting, and playing cards. She and Felix had been members of a card club for over 60 years.
Survivors include four children, Michael (Bonnie) Mahoney of South Haven, Jean (William) Bellman of Winona, David (Janet) Mahoney of Red Wing and Mary (John) Shefland of Bloomington; 12 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; two sisters-in-law, Marilyn Mahoney of Cannon Falls and Mary Lou Stock of Cape Coral, Florida and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husbands and eight siblings.
Mass of Resurrection will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 30, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Goodhue with Father Paul Kubista presiding. Burial will be in the St. Columbkill's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, October 29 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn chapel and at the church for one hour prior to the service. Memorials are preferred to the church, Heartland Hospice or donor's choice.
