Elaine M. Grove, of Zumbrota, age 95, died on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at her daughter's home in Wanamingo surrounded by her family who loved her. The funeral service will be Thursday, May 26, 2016 at 2:00 PM at the Dale Lutheran Church, rural Wanamingo with Pastor Heather Culuris and Pastor Eric Westlake co-officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will gather with friends for one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Arrangements were made with Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel.
Elaine Marcelle Haugen was born on April 11, 1921 to Edwin O. Haugen and Marie (Anderson) Haugen at home in Wanamingo Township, rural Goodhue County. She was confirmed at Holden Lutheran Church and graduated from Kenyon High School in 1939. Elaine married Arvin P. Grove on August 6, 1939. Six children (five daughters and one son) were born to this union. She enjoyed mowing lawn and she mowed the church cemetery grounds at Dale Lutheran church for many years. She was employed seasonally at the Kenyon Canning Factory and later at Zumbrota Community Hospital for 30 years.
Her family was recently blessed to share her 95th birthday, celebrating with most of the 118 members in Arvin and Elaine's family tree.
Elaine is survived by her children, Shirley (Roger) Friese of Kilkenny, Betty (John) Thompson of Waukesha, WI., Avonne (Donald) Bakken of Wanamingo, Wanda (Greg) Swarthout of Zumbrota, Patricia Raasch of Wanamingo, and Larry (Joan) Grove of Wanamingo; 30 grandchildren; 60 great grandchildren; 22 great-great grandchildren; sister-in-law Dorothy Haugen of North Carolina; and nieces and nephews.
Elaine was preceded in death by her husband Arvin in 1985; her parents; brothers, Conrad and Ronald Haugen; sister, Darlyne Podein; sister-in-law, Merdeen Flom; brothers-in-law Floronce Flom and Arthur Podein; son-in-law Daniel Raasch; nephew, Eddie Haugen; and grand-nephew, Mark Haugen II.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts are preferred to Mayo Clinic - Red Wing Hospice or donor's choice.
