Emery Bruce Walters

ROCHESTER - Funeral services for Emery Bruce Walters, age 88, of Rochester, will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Mahn Family Funeral Home - Rochester Chapel, 1624 37 ST. N.W, with Rev. Adam Koglin of Redeemer Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery with Military Honors by the Wm. T. McCoy Post #92 of the American Legion. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home where a reception will be held following the services at the cemetery. Emery died Saturday, June 25, 2016 at his home, Shorewood Senior Campus, in Rochester.
Emery was born Sept. 22, 1927 to Stephen Floyd and Norma (Wiltsey) Walters in Meridan, MN. He graduated from Rochester High School in 1945. In September of 1945 he joined the Army Air Force and served most of his time at Ft. Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska. In October of 1949 he married Linda Rose Mathen at Trinity Lutheran Church in Rochester. He worked as a baker until joining the Rochester Fire Department in 1954. He served for 31 years, the last 20 as a Captain, until his retirement in 1985. Emery was a charter member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, serving on the building committee and as a trustee. In 2001 he and his wife joined Redeemer Lutheran Church. He served on the Stewardship committee and attended Men's Bible study, Christcare, and volunteer work packing medical supplies for the Orphan Grain Organization. He was a past board member of the 1st. Alliance Credit Union (formerly the Municipal Employees Credit Union), serving for 24 years. He and his wife enjoyed wintering in South Texas for 12 years. Emery enjoyed reading, travelling, woodworking, and his 4 grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Linda; his son David (Chris) of Rochester; his grandson Jacob, 3 granddaughters Heather, Samantha, and Bailey; 4 sisters-in-law, 1 brother-in-law, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Stephen, and 2 brothers Rodney, and Norman.
Memorials are suggested to Redeemer Lutheran Church or a charity of the donor's choice.
