Ernest F. "Ernie" Arendt

Ernest F. "Ernie" Arendt age 75, of Mazeppa died on Saturday morning, June 9, 2018 at his home in Mazeppa. The funeral service will be on Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at 11:00 AM at St. John's Lutheran Church in Mazeppa with Pastor Alan Horn officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the Mazeppa Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday, June 12, 2108 from 4:00 - 7:00 PM at the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and on Wednesday for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Ernest Frederick Arendt was born on July 15, 1942 in Red Wing, MN to Rheinhart and Alice (Betcher) Arendt. He grew up on the farm and attended Mazeppa Schools, graduating in 1961. Ernie farmed, before entering the U.S. Army in 1964. He served in Vietnam and was honorably discharged in 1966. Ernie returned to Mazeppa and was married to Vicki Braaten on June 18, 1966. They made their home in Mazeppa and Ernie worked construction before starting to work at Valley Motors and Implement. Ernie work for Valley Motors for twenty seven years until they closed their doors. While doing construction work and working at Valley Motors, Ernie farmed. After Valley Motors closed he began full time farming and was still doing the bookwork for the farm at the time of his death. Over the years, Ernie served on the Mazeppa City Council, the Mazeppa Cemetery Board since 2005 and played Santa Claus at many Christmas gatherings for over thirty years. Ernie was a lifetime member of Swanson-Owens VFW Post #9647 in Oronoco and a member of the American Legion Post #588 in Mazeppa. Ernie enjoyed the Little Log House Show near Hastings, riding his golf cart around Mazeppa, doing word search and playing solitaire on his I-Pad and talking on the phone.
Ernie is survived by his wife, Vicki; children, Eric Arendt; Lisa (Ray) Davis and Jodi (Jim) Flynn; grandchildren, Heidi and Megan Davis and Jadyn and Jacey Flynn; sister, Carol (James) Glander of Mazeppa and sister-in-law, Susan Arendt all of Mazeppa and many nieces and nephews.
Ernie was preceded in death by his parents, Alice and Rhine; brothers, Gary Arendt and Wayne Arendt and his wife Clara and nephew, Darren.
Memorials are suggested to the Mazeppa Cemetery Association.
