Esabelle S. Stone
Esabelle Sarah Stone, age 90, of Red Wing, died Thursday, September 14, 2017 at the St. Crispin Living Community, Care Center.
She was born July 27, 1927 in Cuba, Republic County, Kansas to Charles and Effie (Applegarth) Bergstrom. She later moved to Red Wing with her sister. Esabelle graduated from Red Wing Central High School in 1946. On September 2, 1947, she married Harvey Stone in White Bear Lake. They lived in St. Paul for several years then moved to Welch, Goodhue, then Red Wing. Esabelle raised six children and helped her husband at his Sinclair Gas Station. She was a member at the American Legion Leo C. Peterson #54 Auxiliary, and volunteered at area nursing homes playing the piano and leading sing alongs. She was the organist and choir director at several churches in the area. Esabelle enjoyed travelling to Germany to see family, following dirt track racing, and feeding the birds.
She is survived by her children, Gary (Eve) of Red Wing, Bob (Jane) of Red Wing, Judy (Steve) Sampson of Beldenville, WI, Dave (Kathi) of Red Wing, Kathy (Duke) Bjorklund of Welch, and Jeff (Claudia) of Frickenhausen, Germany; 16 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; several great great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harvey; stillborn daughter, Angel; great-grandchild Ahrek Balzer; and special friend Dale Schillinger
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday, September 16, 2017 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel with Reverend Clay Oglesbee officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Oakwood Cemetery at a later date. Memorials are preferred to Red Wing Faith In Action.
