Garrett Frederick Olson

Garrett Olson, 31, of Lakeland, formerly of Red Wing, died suddenly on Sunday, June 18, 2017.  He was born Dec. 21, 1985 in Palm Springs, California to Frederick and Doris (Barnes) Olson.  He grew up in Red Wing and attended school there until 2002.  His family moved back to California, where he graduated from Palm Desert High School in 2004.  He came back to Minnesota in 2008. On October 9, 2010, he married Heather Olson at First Lutheran Church in Red Wing and they lived in Colorado for a couple of years before returning to Minnesota, eventually buying their first home in Lakeland. Garrett attended Century College, receiving his Commercial Driver's License June 2015, working as a self-employed local driver.   Garrett had recently began working as a driver for a 7up American Bottling Company.  On April 3, 2017, he and Heather welcomed their son, and love of his life, Palmer Garrett Olson into the world.  Garrett was a wonderful and loving father in his short two months with his son.  He was a one-of-a-kind guy and very giving and genuine.  His sense of humor was like no other, something only Heather could understand at times.  He was a wonderful cook and enjoyed grilling nearly every day.  In his free time, he enjoyed driving and working on cars, gardening, music and selling hub caps-something he started collecting and selling since he was 8 years old. He was an incredibly giving man.

Garrett will be missed by his wife, Heather and son, Palmer; his parents, Fred and Doris of West Des Moines, IA; sister, Natalie (Evgeny) Beletskiy of Teaneck, NJ; half-siblings, Christopher (Rhonda) Kindem of Apple Valley and Shelly (Matt Nelson) Kindem Nelson of Cottage Grove; father and mother-in-law, David and Kathleen Olson of Red Wing; brother-in-law, Kristoffer (Erinn Liebhard) Olson of St. Paul; nieces and nephews, Jada, MJ, Matthew, Lauren and Tyler and his beloved Persian cats, "The Persian Mary" and Maynard Terrance, aka "Blacky".
He was preceded in death by his grandparents and aunts and uncles.

Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, June 24 at First Lutheran Church in Red Wing with Rev. Arte Sharot officiating.  Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday, June 23 at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and for one hour prior to the service at the church.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
