George H. Carrell Jr. age 72 of Zumbrota, passed away on Monday, September 19, 2016 at Red Wing Health Center. A graveside service with military honors will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2016 at 11:00 A.M at the Zumbrota Cemetery with Reverend Kitty Burbo officiating.
George Henry Carrell Jr. was born on January 6, 1944 to George and Evelyn (Dill) Carrell in Rochester. He grew up in Zumbrota and graduated from Zumbrota High School in 1962. He was a member of the successful math league and played football, always keeping in-touch will these teammates. George was drafted into the United States Army in 1965, he helped teach math on his base and was honorably discharged in 1967. He worked as a pipe fitter, and attended University of MN - Forestry Program, until he enrolled in Winona Technical School earning a two year degree in surveying. George started his surveying career in Goodhue County and ended it with Nelson Land Surveying retiring in 2009.
George loved going on crazy adventures, which landed him the nickname "Crazy George". He particularly enjoyed the first Tuesday of the month for his meeting with "The Fools".
George enjoyed driving around listening to Blues music, trout fishing with his dog Jiggs, watching stock car races and spending time with friends and family.
George is survived by his sister, Nadine O'Connell; brother, Dennis Carrell; brother-in-law, Arlen Kyllo; nephews, Kevin (Linda) Kyllo, Neal (Wendy) Kyllo; niece, Corrine (Robert) Knutson; great nieces, Kyla and Tori; great-nephews, Steven and Grant; and cousin, John Beale.
George was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Lesley Kyllo; niece, Shelley Kyllo; and special four-legged friend, Jiggs.
