George R. Grotkin, died Tuesday, July 14, 2015, at the Mayo Health System in Red Wing at the age of 89 years, 10 months and 6 days. He was born on September 8, 1925 in Dubuque, Iowa and graduated from Benton High School in Benton, Wisconsin. He graduated from Loras College and attended St. Francis Seminary in Milwaukee. On May 27, 1950 he was ordained. He married Barbara Hofacker, June 20, 1992 and they have lived in Red Wing since. He was a devoted volunteer for the community. He was a member of the Church of St. Joseph, served on the Red Wing Planning Commission and belonged to the Red Wing Woodcarvers. His family recalls how he enjoyed life, loved wholeheartedly and had a great smile. He was dedicated and loyal to all. He will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his loving wife of 23 years, Barbara (Hofacker) Grotkin; nephew, Jack Grotkin; step-children, Joseph (Helen) Brennan, Catherine Luebker and William (Raenell) Brennan; grandchildren, Nicole (Stephen) Sheldon, Jenna Luebker, Chase Luebker, Riley Brennan, Adam Brennan, James Brennan and Simon Brennan; sister, Eleanor Quandt and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, John W. and Regina Grotkin and one brother, John.
Mass of Resurrection will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 20, 2015 at the Church of St. Joseph with Father Thomas M. Kommers presiding. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, July 19, 2015 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and at the church for one hour prior to the service. Memorials are preferred to the St. Jude Children's Hospital cancer research.
