Gerald "Jerry" Rauvola

January 30, 1944 — June 7, 2017

Gerald Roger Rauvola, 73, of Zumbrota, was welcomed into heaven on Wednesday, June 7, 2017.
Jerry was born January 30, 1944 to Ernest and Mary (Smith) Rauvola in Cannon Falls. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Randolph High School in 1962. Jerry worked for Northern States Power Company as an electrical lineman and retired after 37 years of service. He was a long time member of United Redeemer Lutheran Church.
Jerry is remembered as a quiet, unassuming man whose kindness and compassion is woven into the hearts of his family. He shared a level of strength and character that taught you to become a stronger person.
He was an avid outdoorsman who greatly enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time at the cabin. He had a special bond with his hunting dogs; they worked and played hard in pursuit of a great hunt. Jerry had a deep appreciation for spending time with his family and sharing his passions and skills.
Jerry's strength and grace were exemplified in how he managed his long time battle with Parkinson's and Lewy Body Dementia. He and his family built many new friendships and experienced the highest level of compassion during his time at Deer Crest in Red Wing.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; 5 children, Holli (John) Hopkins of Montana, Heidi (Jim) Amari of Montana, Nicky (Mike) Schwenker of Rochester, Erin (Scott) Logan of Zumbrota and Derek (Amber) Dougherty of Rochester; 7 grandchildren, Hannah, Sarah, Kate, Sophia, Alexander, Vienna and Marlie and 2 great-grandchildren, Olivia and Samuel.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Curtis Rauvola.
In honor of Jerry's wishes, a private family service will be held to celebrate his life. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to the Mayo Clinic Health Systems-Red Wing Hospice or a cause close to your heart.
