Geraldine Weiss Asper was born May 8, 1923, in St. Paul to Fred and Louise (Witzke) Weiss. The Weisses were among Red Wing's early settlers. She did bookwork for various grain companies and met her husband Russell Asper at the Minneapolis Grain Exchange. Later she worked for the Minneapolis Public Schools. She spent most of her married life in Minneapolis before retiring in 1985, when she and Russell moved to their farm in Red Wing.
Over the years, Geri was a member of the Church of St. Joseph, the Goodhue County Historical Society, Friends of the Library, Goodhue County Horticulture, and the Sheldon Theater, where she and Russ served as ushers. She also volunteered for the home delivered meals program, as a valet parker at Fairview clinic, and with the Faith in Action program. Russ and Geri were both Master Gardeners and grew flowers, vegetables, and raspberries. Geri enjoyed civic affairs and politics, and served as an election judge for 59 years.
She is survived by daughter Teresa (Joel) Anderson; grandchildren, Norris and Liv; and many nieces and nephews.
