Gloria G. Clemens

July 4, 1925 — November 15, 2014

Gloria Gudrun Clemens, 89 of Red Wing, formerly of Valley City, North Dakota, died Saturday, November 15, 2014 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born on July 4, 1925, in Dover, North Dakota, daughter of Jacob and Gudrun (Mortensen) Jacobson. She graduated from Dover High School as the valedictorian in 1943. Then her teacher training began in Valley City. She taught for two years. On August 9, 1945, Gloria married Marvin Clemens. The couple moved to Minnesota in 1954, settling down in Goodhue County. Gloria took a job working for Maple Island Canning and Creamery in Wanamingo, where she worked for 14 years. Marvin died in October of 1985. She was a past member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Wanamingo and a current member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Red Wing. In her spare time, she enjoyed dancing, cards, bingo, and reading. Gloria was extremely patriotic. She had a very dry sense of humor. Her cooking skills were marvelous, and she loved cooking for her family. Marvin and Gloria would were very kind people, and would take anyone into their home that needed help. Gloria loved spending time with her family more than anything else.

Gloria is survived by her children, Diana (Russell) Diercks of Red Wing, Dale (Theresa) Clemens of Zumbrota, Marlyn (Virginia) Clemens of Owatonna, and Claudia Smith of Red Wing, one daughter in law, Dawn Clemens of New Richmond, WI; 11 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; 1 brother, Kenneth (Chandra) Jacobson of Wanamingo; 4 sisters, Josephine (Lawrence) Anderson of Seattle, WA, Yvonne (Richard) Clemens of Welch, Leah Meier of Hastings, and Mildred Jacobson of Hastings; 3 sisters-in-law, Dorothy Jacobson, Faye Jacobson, and Carmen Jacobson, and 2 brother-in-law, Ralph Clemens and Garfield (Bev) Clemens.

She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Rodney Clemens; great grandchildren, Chris, Cody, Hannah and Casey; brother-in-law, Gordon Meier; and siblings, Rueben, Violet, Irene, Larry, Harry, Carl and Leona.

Memorial service will be 4 p.m. Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, with Reverend Kristen Schlauderaff officiating. Burial will be at a later date at Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery in Wanamingo. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
