Grace K. Fredrickson

August 9, 1938 — April 13, 2015

Grace K. Fredrickson age 76 of Red Wing, formerly of Zumbrota died on Monday, April 13, 2015 at the Red Wing Health Center. The funeral will be on Thursday, April 16, 2015 at 11:00 AM at United Redeemer Lutheran Church in Zumbrota with Pastor Richard Jorgensen officiating. Burial will be in Zumbrota Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Grace Karen Fredrickson was born on August 9, 1938 in Belvidere Township, Goodhue County, MN to Herbert and Hazel (nee Hennings) Fredrickson. Grace grew up in rural Zumbrota, attended country school District #70 for first grade, Zumbrota Schools and graduated from Zumbrota High School in 1956. She attended Waldorf Junior College and received her Liberal Arts Degree in 1958 and her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Luther College in 1960. In 1972 she received her Masters of Science in Education from Winona State University and in 1978 she received her Certification of Elementary Administration from Winona State University. Grace taught third grade in Blooming Prairie for two years, before teaching various grades in Rochester from 1962 till 1989. In 1989 she was forced to retire after suffering detached retinas in both eyes.
Grace was a past member of the Minnesota Education Association and currently a member of the Retired Educators of Minnesota, a life member of the National Education Association and the Minn-E Minni Enthusiast of which she held many various offices and attended national conventions, honorary member of Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority since 1977. Grace also served as a counselor at Camp Edith Mayo where she was involved with the horses, served as Superintendent of the Arts Department at the Goodhue County Fair and was a member of the Zumbrota Covered Bridge Society.
Grace enjoyed traveling and had traveled throughout the United States, Mexico and Canada, constructing miniature items for doll houses, baking, sewing, doing genealogy and sewing vintage doll clothing of which she won prize ribbons at the local level and state fair level.
Grace is survived by her siblings, Harold Fredrickson of Zumbrota, Marilyn Fredrickson of Kasson and Frederick (Janice) Fredrickson of Zumbrota. Grace was preceded in death by her parents, Hazel and Herbert.
