January 2, 1926 — September 8, 2017

Helen J. Nerison, age 91, of Zumbrota, formerly of Goodhue, passed away Friday, September 8, 2017 at Benedictine Health Center in New Brighton. The funeral service will be Friday, September 15, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Minneola Lutheran Church with Pastor Hannah Bergstrom de Leon officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, September 14, 2017 at Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel in Zumbrota from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM and for one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Helen Jeannette Peterson was born on January 2, 1926 to Fred and Sophie (Kindseth) Peterson in Zumbrota. She was raised in Zumbrota and graduated from Zumbrota High School in 1942. She studied piano at MacPhail College of Music and took organ lessons at St. Olaf College. Helen married Norman Nerison on February 27, 1947 at Minneola Lutheran Church. They made their home on the Nerison family farm in Goodhue where they raised their two children. After Norman passed in 1997, Helen continued to live on the farm until 2013, when she moved to Zumbrota. She taught piano lessons to hundreds of students, played organ for Minneola Lutheran Church for many years and Spring Garden Lutheran Church. Helen was also the choir director for many years, before she retired in 2012. Helen was a life-long member of Minneola Lutheran Church.
Helen enjoyed playing piano, watching the MN Twins and Vikings, she also loved watching Wheel of Fortune and Price is Right, playing Yahtzee, doing crossword puzzles and spending time with family.
Helen is survived by her son, Dale (Theresa) Nerison of Robbinsdale; daughter, Beverly (Kelvin) Kittelson of Brainerd; grandchildren, Amy (Matt) Holbrook and Paul Kittelson; great-grandson, Eddie Holbrook; sister, Shirley Rodde; sister-in-law, Lillian Peterson; and several nieces and nephews.
Helen was preceded in death by her loving husband, Norman; four brothers, Thomas, John, Herbert and David Peterson; sisters-in-law, Adeline and Barbara Peterson; and brother-in-law, Fritz Rodde.
