Herbert H. Hinck

Herbert H. Hinck, 87, of Lake City passed away on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at his home. He was born on June 30, 1927 to Henry and Elsa (Henn) Hinck on a farm near Oak Center. He was baptized and confirmed by Rev. Scharlemann at Lincoln Lutheran Church in rural Zumbro Falls. He attended the Oak Center University and the College of Hard Knocks. After working in several factories, he went into the painting business.
On June 10, 1949 he married Marilee Ann Martens at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Belvidere. In 1955, he and Marilee opened a home decorating store in Lake City. In 1958, they purchased the Coleman Supply Co., which today is owned by his son Bryce. Herbert was very active in the community. He served on the City Council, served as president of the Chamber of Commerce for multiple terms (including a term in 1972 during the centennial and 50 Years of Waterskiing Celebration), and served on the Industrial Division Board and the Planning Commission. He was a longtime member of St. John's Lutheran Church and served on their board and was an elder. In later working years, he was a real estate broker and did some commercial and residential building. In his retirement years he was an avid gardener.
Herbert is survived by his wife, Marilee; three children: Robert (Renee) Hinck, Bryce (Kathy) Hinck, and Dawn (Tom) Balow; seven grandchildren: Tyler Hinck, Jessica Hinck, Ben Hinck, Abbey Balow, Maggie Balow, Will Balow, and Max Balow; one great-grandson, Joseph Hinck; two sisters: Phyllis Krueger of Lake City and Angeline Dittfach of Rochester; two brothers: Bernie Hinck of Turtle Lake, WI, and Gordon Hinck of Lake City; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers: Louis, Robert, and Harris.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 20, 2014 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Lake City with Reverend Dennis Valleau officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-4 p.m. Sunday at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Anderson-Peterson Chapel and for one hour prior to the service at the church.
