Howard Boatman, age 99, passed away Monday, November 28, 2016 at St. Crispin Care Center in Red Wing, MN. He was born July 31, 1917 in Mt. Pleasant Twp., Wabasha County to Merwin and Alma (Danneberg) Boatman, baptized August 10, 1917, and confirmed August 9, 1931 at West Florence Immanuel Lutheran Church.
He attended Lake City Schools, Class of 1934, and the University of Minnesota, graduating in 1940.
Howard married Evelyn Moechnig October 30, 1940. They lived on the farm where he was born for 69 years, moving to Lake City in 1986.
Howard served as treasurer on the Mt. Pleasant Twp. board for 36 years. He served as director on the Farmers Elevator board for 21 years, director of the Goodhue County REA for twelve years, and director of the Lake Pepin Soil Conservation. He also served on the West Florence Church Council, nine years as chairman and nine years as secretary, and served on the board of Lakewood Cemetery for 25 years.
Howard is survived by one son, M. Howard (Karen) Boatman and two grandchildren, Lisa and Kimberly Boatman. He is preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn.
A funeral service will be Saturday, December 3, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church in Lake City, MN with Reverends Scott Fiege and Richard Wohlers co-officiating. Burial will be at Lakewood Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with the Mahn Family Funeral Home Anderson-Peterson Chapel in Lake City.
