Isabelle F. "Izzie" Hernlem

Isabelle F. "Izzie" Hernlem age 90 of Zumbrota passed away peacefully on Friday morning, May 25, 2018 at the Pine Haven Care Center in Pine Island. The funeral service will be on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Christ Lutheran Church in Zumbrota with Pastor Wayne D. Schoch officiating. Burial will be in Zumbrota Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Isabelle Florence Carlson was born on October 22, 1927 in Goodhue, MN to Elmer and Helga (nee Karlson) Carlson. She grew up in Goodhue and graduated from Goodhue High School. Izzie attended and graduated from Central Teachers College in Red Wing and taught in Zumbrota Township, District #69 Country School for four years. On December 27, 1947 she married Conrad F. Hernlem at her parent's home in rural Goodhue. After her marriage, Izzie retired from teaching and became a housewife and homemaker. In 1972 they moved off the farm and into Zumbrota. Izzie started working as a Nurse's Aide at the Zumbrota Nursing Home and worked until she reached 75 years old. Izzie was a member of Christ Lutheran Church and was active in its ladies group and was a 4-H leader. She enjoyed baking, taking care of her pets, Minnesota sports teams, especially the Twins and most importantly, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Izzie is survived by her daughters, Linda (Bob) Quast of Goodhue, Margaret (Peter) Coleman of Hudson, WI and Becky Jo (Butch) Birmingham of Zumbrota; grandchildren, Lori (Mike) Posthumus, Wendy Palmer, Timothy (Whitney) Quast, Emily (Brandon) Eytcheson and Elizabeth (Bob) Larson; great-grandchildren, Aiden, Ryan, Zachary, Reese, Cole, Letty, Ella, Olivia, Harper, Jack and Sullivan.
Izzie was preceded in death by her husband, Conrad; parents, Elmer and Helga Carlson, brother, Elmer Carlson and his wife, Harriet; sister, Roszika Hinrichs and her husband Robert; brothers and sisters-in-law; Paul and Berdel Hernlem and Christian and Estella Hernlem.
The family suggests memorials to Christ Lutheran Church or donor's choice.
