Jack Merlyn Stuhr, 82, of Red Wing, died Thursday, August 10, 2017, at the Red Wing Health Center. He was born on October 3, 1934, in Gillford Township, Wabasha County, Minnesota to Peter and Florence (Bundy) Stuhr. He attended schools in Red Wing. On February 14, 1956, he married Ruth Kirchner and they had 4 children. He was a union painter for many years, worked for Jeff Frost Construction, helped in the restoration at the St. James Hotel and then continued to work at the St. James Hotel until his retirement. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trap shooting, gardening, working on cars, going to garage sales, playing bingo and spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by four children, Jackie (Larry) Lyons of Lake City, Terry Stuhr of Lake City, Julie (Matt) Vandelac of Willernie, Minnesota and Steve (Dawn) Stuhr of Atlanta, Georgia; seven grandchildren, Amanda, Nathan, Medora, Lucy, Trevor, Shannon and Andrew; two great grandchildren, Santiago and Jack; one brother, Robert Stuhr of Stewartville; one sister, Sharon (Gilbert) Northey of Red Wing; his former wife, Ruth Kirchner of Red Wing; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Patricia O'Reilly and Dawn Stodola.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. on Monday, August 14, 2017, at St. Mary's of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake City with Father Joseph Pete presiding. Burial will be at the Burnside Cemetery in Red Wing. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church.
