Jean Margaret Turner

July 7, 1931 — September 18, 2014

Jean Margaret Turner, age 83, of Rochester (formerly of Lake City) passed away on Thursday, September 18, 2014 at Mayo Health System-St. Mary's Campus in Rochester.

Jean Margaret Dose was born in Lake City on July 7, 1931 the daughter of George and Alice (Gerken) Dose. She attended school in the Lake City area and then received her associate's degree from the University of Minnesota-School of Agriculture. Jean and Leland Carl Turner were united in marriage in Lake City on June 7, 1950. The couple farmed in the Windom, MN area and then moved to the Blue Earth area where Jean started to raise her children. In 1965, Jean and Leland moved to Hutchinson where Jean was a cook/nutritionist for the Hutchinson Hospital and helped monitor the 3200 chicken farm. Leland died on March 5, 1982. After his death, Jean found enjoyment in cooking for the Cascade Lodge on Lake Superior. She then cooked for the health care center in Apple Valley, MN. In her later years, Jean greatly enjoyed her work as a personal assistant for two families, cooking, caring for the children and traveling with them. She retired in 1985, moved to Rochester and resided there until her death. Jean was a member of Assembly of God Church of Rochester where she was very active in her spiritual life. She was currently facilitating a class entitled "Aging with Grace" and was a hostess for the church in their Information Center. Jean was a wonderful mentor for the church's Building 31 which supports young mothers and their children in their religious studies. She will be greatly missed by her own family, but also by her "church" family as well. Jean loved to read and greatly enjoyed helping others. She spent many hours visiting and assisting shut-ins from her congregation.

Jean is survived by her children: Steven (Alice E.) Turner of Athens, AL, Daniel (Jodi) Turner of Victor, CO, Jane Shaw of Gainesville, FL, Timothy (Mindy) Turner of Big Lake, AK, Charles (Elizabeth) Turner of Sheridan, WY, Rebecca (Brad) Fossand of Pinewood, MN, one son-in-law: Thomas Gutormson of Canon City, CO, 17 grandchildren, 3 Step-Grandchildren, 21 Great-Grandchildren and 1 Great-Great Grandchild. Jean was one of 12 children and is survived by her two brothers: Charlie (Joyce) Dose of Pine Island, MN and Leonard (Marlene) Dose of Longmont, CO and her sister: Jeanette Yotter of Lake City. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Leland, one daughter: Kathleen Gutormson in 1993 and 8 siblings: Marjorie Holst, Dwain, Jess, James, Lee, George, Fritz and Henry Dose.
