Jeanette Kaneen

March 30, 1918 — December 5, 2014

Jeanette C. Kaneen, 96, of Red Wing, was called home on Friday, December 5, 2014 at St. Brigid's at Hi-Park. She was born on March 30, 1918 in Hager City, Wisconsin to Gustaf and Matilda (Swanson) Nelson. She attended rural schools in Pierce County, Wisconsin and Welch, Minnesota and on June 6, 1936 she married Irving Kaneen. They farmed in the Hager City area until moving to Red Wing in 1962. She did altering for many years for Johnson and Meyer Clothing Store and for a few years at Red Wing Laundry. Irving died on June 11, 1994. She was a member of Svea Lutheran Church where she was active with WELCA, quilting group and other church activities. She enjoyed sewing, cooking and baking. Her family recalls her love for family and friends, always enjoying the holiday get-togethers, but also recall her talent of quilting, knitting and crocheting, making many quilts, mittens, hats and afghans. She always had pie or cookies along with coffee ready when someone would stop by to visit.

Survivors include one daughter, Janice (Olin) Fimreite of Whitehall, Wis., one son, Jerry Kaneen of Hager City; eight grandchildren, Robert, Duane, Gordon and Jeffrey Fimreite and Delann, Danette, Denny and Darnell Huppert; six great grandchildren and two great great granddaughters. Also surviving is a niece, Helen Nelson Luna of California, whom she grew up with. She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Carrol Huppert; one son-in-law, Fred Huppert; one daughter-in-law; Helen Kaneen one sister, Edna Kask and one brother, Willard.

Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at Svea Lutheran Church with Rev. Dean Lundgren officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be her six grandsons. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral arrangements are by the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.
