Joan M. Wobig age 81, of Pine Island died early on Thursday morning, March1, 2018 at Green Prairie Place in Plainview where she had resided for the past several months. A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 16, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Saint Paul Lutheran Church in Pine Island with Pastor Darby Lawrence officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in Pine Island Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Joan Mae Meyer was born on May 23, 1936 in Rochester, MN to John A.J. and Irene H. (nee Riess) Meyer. She grew up in Pine Island and graduated from Pine Island High School in 1954. Joan attended Luther College in Decorah, IA and graduated from there in 1956. She continued her education at Winona Teachers College where she graduated in 1958. Joan taught in the Mabel-Canton School District for several years. After her marriage to Marlin Wobig on June 4, 1962, Joan started raising her family. Joan was a member of Saint Paul Lutheran Church and enjoyed playing cards, quilting, driving around Pine Island and going out to eat.
Joan is survived by her children, Mary (Mike) Northagen of Inver Grove Heights, Jay (Nancy) Wobig of Rochester, Tom (Jenni) Wobig of Pine Island and Kathy (Andy) Oberlin of Sussex, WI; grandchildren, Luke (Katie) Northagen, Kylie Northagen, Nick (Kristina) Wobig, Sara Wobig, Amanda Crawley, Adam Oberlin, Craig Oberlin and Joe Oberlin; brother, John (Arlene) Meyer of Pine island and sister, Barbara (Keith) Fletcher of Boulder, MT.
Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Marlin and parents, Herman and Irene.
