John Albert Bacharach

John Albert Bacharach, age 88 of Rochester, died on January 23, 2015 at the Charter House in Rochester.
A Celebration of John's life will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Charter House Chapel, Rochester. Reverend Rachael Hanson will officiate. A social will follow the service. Burial will be in the Maryland Cemetery, Maryland, New York.
John Albert Bacharach was born on March 25, 1926, in Frankfort, Germany the son of Max and Sophie (Simon) Bacharach. He moved to the United States at the age of 1 and lived in Long Island, New York with his parents. Following his high school education, John enrolled in Syracuse University and a short time later joined the U.S Army in March of 1944. He served in Europe during World War II as a radio operator for a forward artillery spotter and also an interpreter. He was honorably discharged in 1946. In 1950, John graduated with a bachelor of science degree from Syracuse University and then attended the University of Minnesota where he received a master's degree in public health in 1956. John met and married Hilde Ludwiga Guth in Ohio in February of 1952 . John and Hilde lived in Pennsylvania where John was a regional health educator for the Department of Health. During his time in Pennsylvania he was successful in convincing the Amish community to accept the Polio vaccination. In 1960, John was hired to direct the Eau Claire City/County Health Department in Wisconsin. He held that position for 30 years and achieved many goals for the Eau Claire communities. John retired in 1990 and continued to reside in the area, enjoying sailing on Lake Wissota. In addition to his great love for sailing, he was an avid outdoors man, enjoying skiing and biking. John loved time spent with his family. John and Hilde moved to Rochester in 2001 where he resided until his death.

John is survived by his wife of 63 years, Hilde of Rochester, two sons and daughters-in-law: J. Michael (Andrea) Bacharach of Sioux Falls, SD, David (Nancy) Bacharach of St. Cloud, MN and 5 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Theodore.
