John Edmund Sandeen

August 10, 1920 — July 13, 2013

John Edmund Sandeen, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, and longtime Rochester resident, passed away at 92 years of age on Saturday (July 13, 2013) at Shorewood Commons in Rochester.
John was born Aug. 10, 1920, in St. Peter, MN to Edmund and Olga (Bjork) Sandeen. He graduated from St. Peter High School in 1938. He worked for Johnson Grocery in St. Peter from 1938 to 1942. John enlisted in the U.S. Army on July 13, 1942. He served in New Guinea and Luzon, Philippines. He was a Sergeant in charge of Hospital Administrations. He left the Army on Jan. 3, 1946, to work for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company for 36 years. John married Bonita Nelson, of Rapidan, in Mankato, MN on May 28, 1950, the couple then moved to Rochester. He enjoyed watching sports, reading, and traveling.
John is survived by his son, Charles (Janet) Sandeen of Colorado Springs, CO; four grandchildren, Jacque, Bruce, Jonathan, and Lisa, and one great granddaughter, Shay. He was preceded in death by his wife Bonnie, who died Mar. 19, 2013, his brother James, and his sister, Lorrane Durland.
A Celebration of Life will be 3:00 p.m., Thursday (July 18, 2013) at Autumn Ridge Church Timothy Chapel with Pastor Bill Price officiating. Private burial will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the Salvation Army.
