Joseph Patrick Goggin

Joseph Patrick Goggin, 79, of Red Wing, died unexpectedly at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester on Monday, Oct. 27, 2014. He was born February 9, 1935, in Murdock, Minnesota to Patrick and Margaret (Lee) Goggin. He graduated from Harvey High School in 1953 and enlisted in the US Army on July 27, 1954 serving until he was honorably discharged in 1956. He attended Minot State University and then Minnesota State University Moorhead, where he received his B. A. in accounting. He was united in marriage to Barbara Akers in Canby, Minn. on June 28, 1958. He worked as an accountant for Investor Diversified Services, a Staff Auditor at Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Company and as an accountant at the Star Tribune before he began his career with the Red Wing Shoe Company in 1967, where he worked as CFO and Vice President before retiring in 2000 as President.

Joe cared deeply about his community which is evident in his service work on numerous boards, organizations, and volunteer work throughout his lifetime, some of which include the Red Wing Golf Club, YMCA, Kiwanis, RW Area Fund, Anderson Center, Lawrence Trucking Board, MN Chamber & MIA Hunters. He was also an active member of the Church of St. Joseph where he served as a Eucharistic Minister, an usher and was a past trustee. He loved traveling, golfing and spending time with his family and grandchildren around the pool, and attending grandchildren's activities.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara of Red Wing; 4 children, Cynthia (Dave) Bauer and Ronald (Catherine) Goggin and Michael (Pam) Goggin all of Red Wing and Amy (Troy) Kemmerer of Hager City Wisc.; 10 grandchildren, Jordan (Mike) Harris, Andrew (Megan) Bauer, Josh (Kaitlin) Bauer, Elizabeth Bauer, Amanda (Dave) Windels, Joseph (Kyleen) Goggin, David and Dylan Goggin and Lucas and Nicolas Kemmerer; 4 great-grandchildren, Henry, Jake, Charlie and Patrick; siblings, Robert and Donald Goggin both of Oklahoma, Thomas (Pam) Goggin of Minneapolis, Richard (Cherie) Goggin of Villard, MN, Helen (Roger) Dysthe of Bloomington and Barbara (Larry) Marek of Chisago City.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister, Patricia, and sister, Rosemary Preuss.

Mass of the Resurrection will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, 2014, at the Church of St. Joseph, with Father Thomas M. Kommers presiding. Burial with full military honors will be in the Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. with a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 29 at the Church of St. Joseph, and one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Memorials are preferred to the church or Red Wing Area Fund. Arrangements are by the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson- Mahn Chapel.
