Joy Sara Thompson, 53 of Rochester, formerly of Red Wing, died after a courageous battle with cancer Monday, February 16, 2015 at her home. She was born July 19, 1961 in Lake City, Minnesota, daughter of Darold and Ardyth (Johnson Erickson) Thompson. Joy attended school in Grand Rapids, graduating in 1980. In 1982, Joy moved to Red Wing, where she began working at the Red Wing Health Center. Shortly after, she married Ray Treichler. The couple moved to Texas, where Joy attended medical assisting school. She worked as a medical assistant before moving back to Red Wing. In 1991 she began her long career at Treasure Island, where she worked in many different positions. She loved her chrome diva jacket, music, particularly Pink, her cats and motorcycles. Joy was a surrogate mother to 100's of kids and had a huge heart of gold. She always put others before herself. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Joy is survived by her siblings, Pam (Delann Huppert) Thompson of Red Wing, Patricia (Michael Jackson) Thompson Brink of Des Moine, IA, Allan (Bea) Thompson of Susanville, CA, Duane Thompson of Lake City, John (Gail) Thompson of Lutsen, MN; ex-husband, Ray Treichler of Rochester, MN; nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and one great great nephew.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother-in-law, Charlie Brink; and maternal and paternal grandparents.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Friday, February 20, 2015 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson - Mahn Chapel, with spiritual care director, Debby Bradley, officiating. Burial will be at a later date at the Ball Bluff Cemetery in Aitkin County, MN. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, February 19, 2015 and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
