Julian "Jack" Lunde

Julian "Jack" Wood Lunde passed away Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at MCHC, Lake City. Jack was born November 19, 1922 to Josie and Milton Lunde in Lake City. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1940. He volunteered for the first American commando unit called Scout and Raiders, training at Fort Pierce, Florida. He served in the U.S. Navy Amphibious Pacific WWII, 1943 to 1945 in 10 invasions. After military service, Jack attended the University of Minnesota, graduating with a degree in mechanical engineering. Jack joined the Wernher von Braun space effort in 1958 when it was under military control. The military was removed in 1960 and it was changed to NASA.
Jack is survived by his loving wife, Evelyn; daughter, Pati (Tim) Walsh of Albuquerque, New Mexico; granddaughters, Maggie (fiancé Eric Buhi) Walsh of La Mesa, California and Kay (Reid) Nunn of Albuquerque, New Mexico; one great granddaughter, Cora Nunn. He is also survived by one brother, William (Nancy) Lunde of Fort Wayne, Indiana; nieces, Kathy, Karen, Debra, Diane and Brenda.
A private interment will be in Lakewood Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements with the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Anderson-Peterson Chapel, Lake City. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com
