Karen Trelstad

Karen Oline Trelstad, 79, of Red Wing, died Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2016, with her family by her side, at Woodbury Senior Living. She was born December 28, 1936 in Elmore, Minnesota, to Earl and Laura (Eichhorn) Egesdal and graduated from Elmore High School in 1954. She attended Lutheran Bible Institute in Minneapolis and then graduated from Augsburg College in 1961. On June 7, 1959, she was united in marriage to Gordon Trelstad at Shiloh Lutheran Church in Elmore. They lived in Brooklyn, New York for a year moving back to Minneapolis where she finished school at Augsburg College and Gordy at Luther Seminary. They lived in Sioux Falls, South Dakota before moving to Wilmot, South Dakota where she taught Home Economics for one year. In October 1970, they moved to Clarkfield when Gordy took a call at Clarkfield Lutheran Church. In 1978, she began working as a secretary in the school office at Clarkfield High School. In 1992, they moved Westbrook until 1999 when Gordy retired. They then moved to Red Wing. They joined United Lutheran Church where they were active members. Karen volunteered at the Red Wing Senior Center. She enjoyed traveling with family, having visited many states including Hawaii and Alaska and in 2009, they were able to take a family trip to Norway, where Karen and Gordy celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with their four children. Karen will be remembered for her kindness and compassion, her organizational abilities, and her great-attention to detail. She enjoyed her Norwegian heritage with cooking and baking, and was known for her krumkake. Most important to her was her faith and family.
She is survived by her husband, Gordon; four children, Sara (Ted) Vanderpan of Buffalo, Minn., Rachel (Jim) Trelstad-Porter of Lauderdale, Minn, Martha (Eric) Sandven and Steve (Tiffany) Trelstad all of Woodbury; 11 grandchildren, Marie, Heidi, Kelsey, Kaia, Carter, Emma, Chloe, Samantha (Patrick), John, Lauren and Brennan; one great granddaughter, Aubree; one brother, Elden (Belinda) Egesdal of Gaylord, a sister, Miriam Engebretson of Anchorage, Alaska; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Sanford Egesdal, a brother-in-law, Bruce Engebretson, and sister-in-law, Laura Jean Egesdal.
The family wishes to thank the Red Wing Visiting Angels, Mayo Clinic Health System (Hospice), Grace Hospice in the Twin Cities, and Woodbury Senior Living for the faithful care extended to Karen.
Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Thursday, December 8, 2016 at United Lutheran Church in Red Wing with Reverend Karl Rydholm officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday at the church. Burial will be at the Stordahl Lutheran Church Cemetery near Zumbrota. Memorials are preferred to the Hope Coalition in Red Wing or Camp Wapo in Amery, Wisconsin. Funeral arrangements are by the Mahn Family Funeral Home,, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.
