Katelyn "Katie" Goihl

February 2, 2001 — June 11, 2016

Katelyn "Katie" Elizabeth Goihl, 15, of Lake City, passed away unexpectedly, with her family by her side, on Saturday, June 11, 2016, at Mayo Clinic Campus, St. Marys Hospital in Rochester. She was born on February 2, 2001, in Burnsville, to Gregory and Kerry (Stephens) Goihl. She had just finished her freshman year at Lincoln High School in Lake City, where she had been on the "A" Honor Roll and just received her drivers permit-something she was so looking forward to getting. She also competed on the Lake City Dance Line, Cross Country Team and Marching Band. Katie loved spending time with children-especially her mom's day care kids and had aspired to attended Winona State University and become a teacher. She worked at the local Dairy Queen and also loved to cook for her family. She was the "glue" of the family, keeping everyone together and where they needed to be and was often called Kerry's "mini-me". She loved being a sister and shared a special bond with her little brother and sister, whom she was very caring and nurturing towards. Like most teenage girls, Katie also loved to shop. She was a member of St. Mary's of the Lake Catholic Church and had been enrolled in confirmation classes.
She is survived by her parents, Greg and Kerry of Lake City; sister, Abigail; brother, Nicholas; maternal grandparents, Jerry and Betty Stephens of Ham Lake; paternal grandparents, Kay (David Pierson) Goihl of Lake City; maternal great-grandmother, Lois Stephens of Brooklyn Center; aunts and uncles, Marie Goihl, Jeff (Melissa) Goihl, Chris (Jen) Goihl, Robin (Todd) O'Callaghan, Kris (Joe) O'Neill and cousins, Owen, Forest, Grace, Michael, Avery, Megan, Ana and Ruby.
She was preceded in death by her infant brother, Gabriel; paternal grandfather, Paul Goihl; paternal great-grandparents, Michael (Ruby) Shanahan and Ed (Rita) Goihl; maternal great-grandfather, Kenneth Stephens and an infant cousin, Issiah.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m., Thursday, June 16, 2016 at St. Mary's of the Lake Catholic Church with Father Joseph Pete presiding. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 15 and for one hour prior to the service all at the church. Arrangements handled by Mahn Family Funeral Home, Anderson Peterson Chapel.
