Katherine Elvira Quarve was born September 19, 1920 to parents, John O. and Katherine Jacobson in Rushford, Minnesota. She met and married Walter Quarve in 1939, together having one son, Leon, and remained married until Walter's passing in 1993. Katherine worked at the Boeing factory in Denver during the second world war. After the war, Katherine and husband Walter managed the golf course in Rushford. In 1955, the couple and their son moved to Lake City, where Katherine spent the rest of her life working at the Lake City Country Club and eventually the Coffee Mill Golf Course in Wabasha before final retirement. Katherine was also a homemaker and animal rights activist, initiating and running the Hiawatha Valley Humane Society operations in the Lake City area. She was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Lake City. Katherine liked to go on trips across the country while married and in her later years enjoyed going on trips to regional casinos. Katherine spent her last 5 1/2 years at the nursing home in Lake City where she passed away peacefully surrounded by family on July 8, 2017. Katherine lived a very good and long 96 years before her ascension.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four siblings, Irene, John K., Edwin and Bernhard Jacobson, and her husband Walter. Katherine is survived by her son Leon (Rung Nitmai), three grandchildren, Nancy (Jeff) Hamson, Amy Quarve (Dustin Stenberg), Clinton Quarve, one great grandson, Andrew Hamson, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Memorial Service will be held Monday, July 17, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the Mahn Family Funeral Home Anderson-Peterson Chapel Lake City with Rev. Barbara Mathias officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Rushford, MN. Visitation will be Monday from 10 to 11 AM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers and monetary gifts, the family is asking that all proceeds in Katherine's remembrance be given to the Hiawatha Valley Humane Society in Lake City, MN.
