Leslie Dean Ekhoff

A memorial service for Dean Ekhoff will be held Friday July 7th at 10:00 AM at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Rochester Chapel. The Reverend Lincoln Engelbert will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Mr. Ekhoff, 84, of Rochester, died Monday July 3, 2017 at Edenbrooke Nursing Home in Rochester.

Dean was born May 2, 1933 in Aurora, Missouri to John and Olive (Beyer) Ekhoff. Raised in Cedar Grove, Wisconsin, and after graduating from high school, he served in the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1956. He entered the Milwaukee School of Engineering, and was a graduate of the Class of 1960. He married Jacqueline Galowitz on September 19, 1959 in Milwaukee. Mr. Ekhoff was employed by IBM for thirty years; three years in Poughkeepsie, New York, and then he moved to Rochester in 1964. He retired in the early 1990s, and he and Jackie moved to Salado, Texas. In Salado, he was an active member of the 1st Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. Dean and Jackie returned to Rochester, Minnesota in 2016, after twenty years in Texas.

Dean had many interests. He trained Labrador retrievers for field trial competition, enjoyed duck and pheasant hunting, fishing, coaching hockey and baseball, played golf, and enjoyed dancing with his wife. He was a lifelong avid Green Bay Packers fan.

He is survived by his wife Jacqueline Ekhoff of Rochester; sons, Bruce (Dawn) Ekhoff of Shakopee, Mark Ekhoff of Tonka Bay; a daughter, Cindy (Frank) Fuller of South St. Paul; six grandchildren, Franklin, Joseph, Anthony, Nathan, Maddison, and Mary Jo. Also surviving are two brothers, Ray (Ruth) Ekhoff of Peoria, Illinois, Bruce (Rose) Ekhoff of Bellevue, Illinois; and two sisters, Charlotte Pieper of Apple Valley, and Judy McColl of Chillicothe, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Clair Gene Ekhoff.

If so desired, and in lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Mayo Clinic's Foundation for Alzheimer's research.
