Leslie Clare Gentry

Leslie Clare Gentry, 73, of Frontenac, died Tuesday, October 31, 2017, at his home. He was born on April 24, 1944, in Galesville, Wisconsin to Earl Gentry and Blanche Berzinski. He lived with his grandmother in Galesville for the first three years of his life and then moved to Onalaska with his mother and step-father, Blanche and Phil Morkwed. His family moved to Red Wing in 1952. He attended school in Red Wing and graduated from Red Wing Central High School in 1963. He married Dorothy DeForth on August 2, 1965 in Frontenac. The couple lived in Red Wing, Goodhue, and Wacouta. Les worked at the Red Wing Shoe Company, S. B. Foot Tannery, Red Wing YMCA, and did a variety of odd jobs including helping his wife run a daycare. He was a member of United Lutheran Church. Les enjoyed camping trips, collecting John Deere toys, making wood art and being with his grandchildren.



Les is survived by his wife of 52 years, Dorothy; three sons, Troy (Ravenna) Gentry of Cannon Falls, Scott (Jeri) Gentry of Goodhue, and Brian (Shannon) Gentry of Woodbury; grandchildren Tyler Gentry, Cody Gentry, Courtney Gentry, Brittany Gentry, Max Gentry, Rylan Gentry, Grant Almeida, Missy Lind and BJ Lind; great grandchildren Mason Harris, Manny Almeida, Duke Keller, Junior Keller, Gabriel Almeida, and Elicia Almeida; two sisters Rebecca (Ken) Waldvogel of Plum City and Tammy Morkwed of Red Wing; one brother Lance (Jane) Morkwed of Lake City; one brother-in-law, Carl Esterby of Red Wing and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Phil Morkwed; one sister, Sue Esterby; one brother, Louis Berzinski; two nieces, Terri Van Buskirk and Athena McCartt; and two nephews, Michael Waldvogel and Rick Reinhart.



Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 4, 2017, at United Lutheran Church in Red Wing, with the Reverend Karl Rydholm officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, November 3, 2017, at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Chapel and at the church for one hour prior to the service.
