Lorraine E. Rabe, age 98, of Lake City passed away Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at Mayo Clinic Health System Care Center in Lake City. She was born on October 29, 1918 to Archer and Grace Copp. She was baptized at the Lake City Methodist Church in May 1919.
Lorraine married Carroll Rabe on August 2, 1939. She taught school at Jacksonville Country School and several other country schools in the area. They also farmed in rural Lake City for many years. The most important things in her life were her husband, Carroll, her parents, her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Family life was very important. She was very grateful to Earl Jewell in later years for his companionship.
Lorraine was a long time 4-H leader, school teacher, Wabasha County Fair Board leader, DHIA milk tester, and she served on the Gillford Cemetery Board at Lincoln.
Music was always an important part of family. She could play piano, trumpet, and violin in her father's dance band, Archie's Orioles. She loved gardening, hand crafts, sewing, painting, and writing.
Lorraine is survived by her son Dan (Val) Rabe of West Concord; four daughters, Jean (Don Donlinger) Springer of Millville, Kay (Frank Mercadante) Klein of Apopka, FL, Karen (Jerry) O'Brien of Lake City and Debra (Kevin) Pahl of Coon Rapids; two daughters-in-law, Gerri Rabe, of Lake City, Sandy Riess of Elgin; one sister, Evelyn Dahling of Lake City; 12 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Carroll; her parents, Archer and Grace; two sons, Rodney and Roger; her brother, Verle Copp; sister, Ada Larson; and friend, Earl Jewell.
A funeral service will be Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at 11:00 a.m at United Methodist Church in Lake City, MN with Reverend Phillip Schmidt officiating. Burial will be at Lakewood Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Mahn Family Funeral Home Anderson-Peterson Chapel Lake City and one hour prior to the service at the church.
