March 24, 1924 — April 17, 2017

Graveside services for Lorraine VanHavermaet will be held Saturday April 22nd at 11:00 AM at Saint Mary's Cemetery in Melrose. The Rev. Marvin Enneking will officiate.
Mrs. VanHavermaet, 93, of Rochester, died Monday April 17, 2017 at Cottagewood Memory Care in Rochester where she had resided in recent years.

Lorraine Catherine Spaeth was born March 24, 1924 in Greenwald, Minnesota. She was the only child of Theodore and Alvina (Kramer) Spaeth. She lived on the farm near Greenwald until 3rd grade when her family moved to Melrose, Minnesota. She graduated from Melrose High School in 1942. She worked at Kraft Foods in Melrose as a bookkeeper for several years before she married Lawrence VanHavermaet on June 2, 1952. They made their home in Melrose, and they had one son Charles. In 2005 they moved to Rochester, Minnesota to live near their son and his family.

Lorraine delighted in her family. She loved being close to them, and she was proud of them. She also did beautiful needlework and enjoyed sewing and baking. She decorated lovely cakes to delight us all. She surprised everyone when she earned her Amateur Radio license at the age of 78 years.

She is survived by her son Charles (Barbara) VanHavermaet of Rochester, and three grandsons, Benjamin, Daniel, and Samuel, as well as a large extended family. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Salvation Army.

Online memorials are being welcomed and may be written at this website.
