Lynn R. Sloan

July 5, 1930 — November 6, 2017

Lynn Roger Sloan, 87, of Red Wing, died Monday, November 6, 2017, at his home at Potter Ridge. He was born on July 5, 1930, in Ladysmith, Wisconsin to John and Ruth (Pilgrim) Sloan. He graduated in 1949 from Houston High School in Houston, Minnesota and then attended Dunwoody Institute for welding. In 1952 he married Eileen Costello. They lived in Plainview until 1957 when they moved to the Twin Cities. He worked at Bermo for six years and then for Lee Stamping for 30 years. They lived in Inver Grove Heights from 1965 to 1995 and then moved to Red Wing. Following his retirement in 1995 he did custodial work for Wiederholts Supper Club for 14 years. Despite his other jobs, Lynn always considered himself a farmer and his heart was always on the farm. Eileen died on December 19, 2001. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Miesville. Even though he considered himself a homebody, he enjoyed camping with Eileen and the kids, fishing, farming and coin collecting. Work was his passion and he enjoyed meeting and visiting with people on the job working. He was an avid Minnesota sports fan of the Vikings and Twins and his new love the Lynx. Most of all he loved his family.
Lynn is survived by his children, Tim (Charlotte) Sloan of Red Wing, Kathy (Larry) Morris of Askov, Minn., and Patrick (Jeannette) Sloan of Oakdale; seven grandchildren, Eric, Nicole, Zach, Jessica, Martina, Broghan, Natasha; many great grandchildren; one brother, Ernie (Donna) Sloan of Hokah, Minn.; one sister, Mary (Lyle) Wehrs of Plainview; many nieces and nephews and two sisters-in-law, Valerie and Dorrine Sloan.
