Margaret Winniford Yernberg, 93, of Red Wing, formerly of Duluth, passed away Saturday, May 28, 2016, at her home at Potter Ridge Assisted Living Community. She was born March 24, 1923, in Superior, Wisconsin, to Wilhelm and Christina (Larson) Johnson and graduated from Duluth Central High School in 1940. She met her husband, Clarence Yernberg, on a blind date, and the two were married on March 26, 1943. They lived in Duluth, where they raised three children.
She was a long-time member of First Lutheran Church in Duluth, where she was a member of the sewing club, an archives committee member and she sang in the Duluth Mother's Chorus. She was also a member of the Professional Secretaries International for several years. Clarence died in 1994 and Margaret stayed in Duluth until 2006, when she moved to Red Wing. Throughout her life she enjoyed reading, playing piano, singing, playing games and visiting with family and friends. Margaret was fond of traveling and had the opportunity to visit Norway, take in two cruises to the Caribbean, and spent some time Atlantic City, New York City, Branson and St. Petersburg, FL. Her greatest joys in life were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren--she especially enjoyed when the new babies arrived.
She is survived by 3 children, Bruce (Marianne) Yernberg of Red Wing, Ralph (Marcia) Yernberg of Northfield and Clarice (Steven) Steiner of St. Petersburg, FL; 6 grandchildren, Heidi, Steven, Christine, Carolyn, Kyle and Jeremy; 5 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; an infant brother and 3 sisters.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, June 3, at First Lutheran Church in Red Wing, with Rev. Arthur Sharot officiating. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and for one hour prior to the service at the church.
