Marian Elvira Bjorklund

Marian Elvira Bjorklund, 96 of Red Wing, died Monday, January 23, 2017 at her home at Potter Ridge, surrounded by her family. She was born on the Swanson farm in Welch township on August 4, 1920 to Linus and Esther (Akenson) Swanson. She grew up on the farm and attended rural school in Welch. She later worked for Red Wing Pottery where she painted the Orleans pink rose pattern. She married Glen Bjorklund on October 18, 1947 after his honorable discharge from the U.S. Army. The couple made their home and raised their family on the farm where she was born and where her son and family now reside. She was a member of Cross of Christ Lutheran Church where she was active in the Women's Circle for many years. She taught many years of Sunday school at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church and also Vasa Children's Home. Marian enjoyed gardening and canning. She was also a talented quilter and crocheter who made baby blankets for many new babies.
She is survived by her four children, Becky (Bill) Buchanan, Sandy (Steve) Anderson, Leanne (Reg) Sikkink and Duke (Kathy) Bjorklund; 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren as well as other family and many friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Glen; granddaughter, Tara; 3 sisters, a brother and her parents.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m., Friday, January 27, 2017 at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Welch with Reverend Robert Berthold officiating. Burial will be at the Church Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church. Memorials are preferred to the church, Red Wing Mayo Hospice or the donor's choice.
