Martha Lillian Possehl

March 9, 1921 — August 14, 2015

Martha L. Possehl, 94 of Columbia Ct., died Friday, August 14 at Douglas Manor in North Windham, Ct. She was born in Carver County, Minnesota, on March 9, 1921, to William and Louise Schmidt. She was the middle child in a farming family of 5 girls and 2 boys. In 1942 while working for a family in Minneapolis, she met an Army private, Edward Possehl, who was stationed at Fort Sibley. On April 25, 1943, they married in Olympia, Washington. Before the war ended Ed was badly wounded, so Martha traveled to Topeka, Kansas, to be with him. After the war they settled in Frontenac, Minnesota, to run a small general store. Soon they moved to Red Wing, where Ed got a job with Red Wing Shoe Company. In 1950 they with their two young daughters, Judy & Lesa, were transferred to Salt Lake City, Utah, where they enjoyed camping. Five years later they moved back Frontenac. In the 1980s they returned to Red Wing. During their married life they traveled in the United States, Mexico and Canada. After Louise passed away in 1989 & Ed in 1994, Martha continued to travel -- Oregon, North Carolina, Alaska, Thailand, Europe, Hawaii, & cruising to Bermuda. She moved to Connecticut in 2001 to be near her daughter Judy & son-in-law Gale. Martha enjoyed handiwork, cooking, reading her hometown news, helping others, watching sports especially the Vikings & Twins, and most of all spending time with her family.

Besides her daughter and son-in-law, she is survived by her grandchildren Chelsia Wright (fiancée Greg Tague), Michael Wright and great grandson Caleb Wright plus their father Jeffery Wright (Esper). She also leaves her sisters Dorothy Wolgram and Erna Schulz plus many nieces, nephews, & cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband Edward Possehl, daughter Louise (Lesa) Wright, grandson Colin Wright, sisters Lorna Grant and Bernice Otte, and brothers Hugo Schmidt and Roland Schmidt.
