Mary Louise Mark

Mary Louise Mark, age 88, died at her home on Monday, February 16, 2015. Mary was born on October 20, 1926, in Red Wing, the daughter of Fred and Clara (Olson) Chellberg. She was raised in the rural areas around Welch and Red Wing, graduating from Red Wing High School in 1945. She entered teacher training and taught in a one-room schoolhouses in Goodhue County.
Mary was married to Gordon Mark on November 25, 1949, in Welch. They raised a family of four children in Red Wing, with Mary being the stay at home mom and homemaker. She worked part-time for Comstock Greenhouses and Sargent Nurseries, as well as Munson Printing. She also volunteered in numerous capacities, including Girl Scouts and being a long term election judge. She was an active member of First Lutheran Church in Red Wing, serving on committees, church council, choir and teaching Sunday School for 40 years. She was also a member of the Swedish Singers.
Her favorite hobby was her family and friends. Mary enjoyed watching sporting events, concerts, plays and contests, especially those featuring her children and grandchildren. She was known for keeping a scorebook for any ballgame she attended, be it the Twins, Aces, Little League or a softball game. Umpires would sometime turn to her for the count or number of outs.
Mary is survived by her children, Daryl (Susan), Kevin (Cyd), Ann Korecky (Jim) and Marie Mark (Mike Marchand), 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Gordon who died in 1991, and sister, Delma Rigelman.
A celebration of Mary's life will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2015, at 11 a.m. at First Lutheran Church of Red Wing, with a visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. Memorials preferred to First Lutheran Church or the Hedin-Hartnagel Memorial Fund.
