Maurice R. Stussy age 93, of Pine Island died on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at the Zumbrota Health Services. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 21, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Saint Paul Lutheran Church in Pine Island with Pastor Kip Groettum and Pastor Darby Lawrence officiating. Inurnment will be in Pine Island Cemetery with military honors provided by American Legion Post #92 of Rochester. Visitation will be on Thursday for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Maurice Ralph Stussy was born on July 22, 1922 in Milton Township, Dodge County, MN to Karl and Anna (nee Stussi) Stussy. He grew up on the family farm and attended Pine Island area schools. In his early years, Maurice worked at the Stussy Gravel Quarry. On October 5, 1942 he entered the U. S. Army. He served during World War II with the Air Corps until his honorable discharge on January 29, 1946. On July 10, 1954 Maurice married Carolyn S. Waldon in Minneapolis. They made their home in Pine Island. Maurice worked as a rural mail carrier for thirty four years and was a substitute school bus driver for twenty five years. Carolyn died on February 2, 2007. Maurice was a member of Saint Paul Lutheran Church in Pine Island, National Association of Federal Retired Employees and American Legion Post #92 in Rochester. Maurice enjoyed listening to and watching Minnesota Twins baseball.
Maurice is survived by his brother, Fred (Barbara) Stussy of Rochester; sister, Katherine Klingsporn of Marshfield, WI; sister-in-law, Marian Waldon of Hickory, NC and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Maurice was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn; parents and brothers, Ralph and Rolland Stussy.
