Melroy C. Groth age 81, of Zumbrota died suddenly on Monday, July 3, 2017 at Mayo Clinic Hospital - Rochester, St. Marys Campus. The memorial service will be on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at 2:00 PM at United Redeemer Lutheran Church ion Zumbrota with Rev. Dr. Marggi Pleiss-Sippola officiating. Burial will be in Zumbrota with military honors provided by the Stary-Yerka VFW Post #5727 of Zumbrota. A memorial visitation will be on Friday, July 7, 2017 from 4:00-8:00 PM at the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and on Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Melroy Clarence Groth was born on September 15, 1935 in Red Wing, MN to Clarence and Vinnie (nee Lohmann) Groth. He grew up in rural Zumbrota and attended Zumbrota Schools. On January 12, 1954 he entered the United States Marine Corps. He served in Korea during the Korean Conflict and earned his GED while in the Marines. On January 11, 1957 he was honorably discharged and he returned to the Zumbrota area. Melroy was united in marriage to Elvia M. Turner on February 21, 1959 in Lake City. They lived in various cities and Melroy truly enjoyed working in customer service in a variety of retail sales jobs in the area. Melroy retired in 2008. Melroy loved fishing and enjoyed planting the garden, watching the birds and squirrels battling at the feeders, talking to friends and strangers and especially spending time with his grandchildren. Melroy was a member of Stary-Yerka VFW Post #5727, Zumbrota American Legion Post #183 and the 65-50 Club in Zumbrota.
Melroy is survived by his wife, Elvina; children, Dean (Wendy) Groth of Goodhue, Cindy (Jim) Reding of Zumbrota, Sharon (Mike) Crilly of Kellogg, Doug (Angela) Groth of Leavenworth, KS, Dale "Chub" (Carol) Groth of Lake City and Barb (Mark) Groth Krueger of Lake City; fourteen grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, brother, Archie (Sue) Groth of Oshawa, Canada and sisters, Sylvia (Lowell) Mitchell of Mazeppa and Ardell (Roger) Buck of Owatonna.
Melroy was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Vinnie, one granddaughter and one great-granddaughter.
