Merilynn Joy Schacht

Merilynn J. Schacht, of Rochester, went to her heavenly home at the age of 94 years on Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2018 at Samaritan-Bethany Home on Eighth. Merilynn Joy Bennett was born Jan. 8, 1924 in Potsdam, MN, on the family farm, to Lloyd L. and Adeline M. (Breese) Bennett. She was raised in the area and graduated from Rochester High School in 1942. She moved to Bremerton, WA during World War II, where she worked and lived on the Naval Base before returning to Rochester. On Apr. 30, 1943 she married Dwayne E. Schacht at Redeemer Lutheran Church. Dwayne died Nov. 22, 2016. Merilynn was a life-long homemaker and was known as an excellent seamstress. She made custom draperies for area interior decorators and enjoyed sewing for her family. Her faith and her family were of the utmost importance to her. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church where she was a Sunday school teacher.
Survivors include her daughters Linda (Virgil) Eickhoff, Susan Kazos, Mary (Terry) Knipschield, and Gayle (John) Schultz, all of Rochester; six grandchildren, Michelle, Matthew, Angela, Sarah, Krista, and Teresa, seven great-grandchildren Chase, Autumn, Cash, Waylon, Daisy Sue, Phoenix, and Michael, her sister Nancy (Denny) Volding of Copple, TX; her brother Roger Bennett of Rochester; and her brother-in-law Rudy Biaggio of Rochester. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her sister Geraldine, her brother Loren, and her son-in-law Mike Kazos.
The funeral service will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church with Rev. David Wood officiating. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Redeemer Lutheran Church of Rochester or Seasons Hospice. Mahn Family Funeral Home - Rochester Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
