Norma Olson, age 91, of Rochester, died Sunday, Nov. 26, 2017 at Samaritan Bethany Home on Eighth. Norma Charlotte Stolee was born Jan. 19, 1926 in Faribault, MN to Chris and Nellie (Walker) Stolee. She was raised on the family farm near Kenyon, MN and graduated from Kenyon High School in 1944. Norma then attended Mankato State Teachers College where she received her teaching certificate in 1946 and her 4 year degree in 1953, after attending summer school and night school. She taught Elementary School for nine years in Spring Grove, Zumbrota, and St. Louis Park, MN. On Aug. 26, 1955 she married Alvin Olson at Hauge Lutheran Church in Kenyon. The couple made their home on a dairy farm near Webster, MN. Norma returned to the classroom as a substitute teacher in 1977. On the farm, she was known for her baking and the tasty noontime meals she prepared every day. She had big strawberry and raspberry patches. She canned and froze vegetables and fruit and made lots of strawberry shortcake.

She was a longtime member of Solor Lutheran Church in Webster where she was a member of the ALCW. She was also an active member of the Webster Mother's Club. In later years, Norma enjoyed traveling with her husband to Norway to visit relatives. After Alvin died in 1992, Norma moved to Rochester where she provided day care for her grandchildren, became active in BSF (Bible Study Fellowship) and was a regular attendee at local theatre and music productions. She loved taking drives into the countryside and baking for her grandkids and neighbors. She also enjoyed taking trips with family and friends.

Survivors include her daughters Helen (Lonny) Olson-Williams of Rochester; Elizabeth Olson (Geoffrey Ferrell) of Washington, DC; and JoAnn (Peter) Schwabland of Seattle, WA; sons James (Michele) Olson of Sykesville, MD; and Curtis (Lisa) Olson of Webster; grandchildren Hannah, Erik, Caroline, Andrew, Laura, Levi, and Lucy; and her brother Curtis (Peg) Stolee of St. Peter, MN. She was preceded in death by her husband Alvin, sister Odell, and brother Amos.
