Norman Briggs

April 14, 1930 — April 10, 2015

Norman Briggs, age 84, of Zumbrota, formerly of Arvada, Colorado passed away at his daughter's home on April 10, 2015.

Norman was born on April 14, 1930 in Bolton, England, the son of Norman James and Lucy (Greenhalgh) Briggs. He was the youngest of four children. He attended school until the age of 14 and left school to become a machinist. In 1948, at the age of 18, Norman immigrated to the United States and entered the United States Army where he served in Germany during the Korean War. He was a member of the 1st Infantry division, the Big Red One. After his honorable discharge, Norman attended Denver University, where he received a Master's degree in education. He met and married Lois Knowles and the couple raised two children in Colorado as Norman worked in the Denver Public School System. After 33 years of teaching, Norman retired. He enjoyed volunteering at the museum, traveling and visiting his grandchildren. He greatly enjoyed a good cup of tea, a good book and WWII historical documentaries.

Norman is survived by his children: Norman James (Debbie) Briggs of Lakewood, CO, Lucy (Eric) Schwartz of Zumbrota, MN, his grandchildren: Andi Schwartz and Melanie Schwartz of Zumbrota, MN, two nieces: Evelyn and Christine and very special friends: Mimi (Dave) Larson and their daughter: Chiana of Greenwood Village, CO.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings: Minnie Larson, William and Stanley Briggs and his niece: Lucy Ellen.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
